Student profile: Ashlee Culverhouse pursues journalism with passion

Twenty-one year old University of Georgia student, Ashlee Culverhouse whole-heartedly agrees in the old adage that a dog is man's best friend.

"I'm obsessed with my dog," said Culverhouse.

While Culverhouse's terrier, Aphid, and her boyfriend Tom of five years vie for much of her time, Ashlee is passionately pursuing another love--magazine journalism.

Culverhouse is majoring in magazine journalism at UGA with an emphasis in photojournalism. She is also minoring in English.

Culverhouse says her passion for journalism has been steadily developing throughout her time at UGA. A trip to Costa Rica to study photo-journalism with other UGA students this past summer served to increase her desire to continue pursuing a career in journalism.

Not only has Culverhouse gained journalism experience through travel, she has also contributed to her hometown newspaper, The Taylor County News and has done wedding photography.

Culverhouse says her interest in the field is both current and visionary. She aspires to do field editing for a publication like Southern Living or Better Homes and Gardens.

On her journey to meeting her journalistic goals, Tom and Aphid will certainly be there to witness her success.
